Our latest project was all about preserving British history. Kilns & Furnaces provided a furnace to make parts for 3 locomotives. Sherwood Forester, Britannia, and Braunton. The furnace heated the white metals used to create wheel bearings. These wheel bearings now sit on 3 old steam locomotives.
The Kiln
The furnace we provided was a standard top-loading furnace, with a maximum temperature of 850 Degrees Celcius. Which proved ideal for heating the bearings for the trains. The order was placed in January 2021 and delivered within 6 weeks. Since then, London North Western railway has explained how happy they are with the furnace.
More information on the locomotives
These 3 trains are members of the ‘Icons of Steam’, who are dedicated to preserving and operating historic steam locomotives. The ‘Icons of Steam’ are vital to ensuring Britain’s heritage is preserved for many generations to come.
